Sadhana must Be Continuous*
During one interview, Swami was explaining the importance of Sadhana.
Swami asked us, "Did you ever take a village bus ride?" The boy at whom Swami was looking at
answered.
Boy: "Yes Swami, I did travel by village buses."
Swami: "when the bus moves forward, did you happen to notice the dust trail that follows the bus?"
Boy: "Yes Swami"
Swami: "What do you think happens when the bus brakes and stops? The trail of dust that the bus rakes
up now drifts onto the bus, covers it and also enters inside to settle.
For this reason, one must continuously engage in Sadhana. As long we continue to put forward our effort, the negativity remains in the background. But, the moment we stop our efforts, such negativity will just fall upon us."
Boy: "Swami, does it mean that there is no end to this continuity?"
Swami: "Yes, there is an end. But, to reach it takes time. Understand that if the bus were to travel on a
paved road, then there is no notion of a trail of dust behind the bus. In such situations, braking on such
roads does not cause any difficulty. Such a journey would be easily recognizable by You.
In Sadhana, traveling on the paved road is equivalent to loosing the aspirations for this material existence and not
being lured by its charms."
Amazing how in simple terms, using simple analogies Swami is able to explain some complex but vital
concepts to us. We must now appreciate the importance of Sadhana and continuously strive for keeping
the negative pulls away from our forward momentum. Swami, we humbly pray that you bless us in this journey.
